3D PRINTING AND COMIC BOOK ILLUSTRATION (GRADES 1 - 6) / IMPRESIÓN 3D Y ILUSTRACIÓN DE CÓMICS (GRADOS 1 - 6) - $230

Students will observe a 3D Printer each lesson to learn proper 3D printing standards and processes, all while creating their own models that will be printed for them. The course ends with students taking home their own accounts so they may continue modeling at home, along with at least 2 model prints they designed themselves during their time with us. Students will learn about character development, storyboarding, panelling, story design, color theory and how to hone their art style. Instructors will teach students how to create comics using traditional art along with digital software, so they may work comfortably in whichever medium they prefer. Each student will leave with their very own comic book they created in class, along with a strong introduction to digital art processes and comic composition concepts.

Registration and full class descriptions are open at https://laes.ptboard.com/formvw?store=5395&form=1 until September 20th. To register for classes, select the "Form & Payment" tab on the left-hand side of the website. 

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For families that do not have digital access, are applying for a scholarship, or are paying with a money order or cashier’s check, please email afterschoolprogram@lakeanne-pta.org or go to the front office to obtain a paper registration form. Another option is to download a form from PTBoard. 

If the minimum number of students is not reached for a particular class, the class will be canceled and you will be notified by email before the start date and we will try to place you in another class if possible.

Scholarships

Students who have qualified for free and reduced lunch are eligible for scholarships. A scholarship pays for half of each program fee; parents/guardians are responsible for the remainder 50%. The LAES administration verifies this information, not the PTA. The 50% payment must be paid at the same time the registration form is submitted. Please complete the application bit.ly/laesdiscount as soon as possible for eligibility verification. 

Volunteering & Questions

The After-Schools Program is run by parent volunteers and we love offering these extra programs for the students. The first two weeks of the session, we need parents to help students get to the correct room. Please go to the PTBoard to sign up for a time if you can help. Expectations of Student Behavior & Timely Pick-Up by Designated Adults

Instructors will rely on your child’s school-day behavior to make the most of their short hour together.  Although offered by the PTA, the FCPS Rules of Conduct apply to this and all After School Programs. Instructors have the ability to drop a child from the program for behavior issues that distract others from learning. No refunds will be provided. 

Please be on time to pick-up your child. Most vendors charge a late fee, which must be paid directly to the vendor. If you are late twice, your child may not be allowed to continue in the class and no refunds are provided. Students must be signed out after each session. Please do not park in the drop off lane.

Who organizes and runs the enrichment program?
The Lake Anne Elementary School PTA organizes the programs. There is a committee of parents that helps run the program. It's a tiny team and we would love your help. Please contact the laesptaafterschool@gmail.com if you interested in helping select the classes and coordinate the program.

Who teaches the classes? 
The classes are mostly run by outside vendors that have gone through Fairfax County Public Schools security checks. Teachers at LAES also offer a number of classes.

Can a parent teach an enrichment class?
Yes, a parent can teach a PTA-sponsored enrichment class. There are administrative issues that need to be discussed with the parent regarding insurance and other administrative items. 

It is recommended that the parent contact the Enrichment Coordinator no later than February/March of the year prior to the academic year in which they would like to teach an enrichment class. 

What happens if FCPS is closed or closes early?
Enrichment will be canceled in the event that FCPS is closed or has an early dismissal. We try to build in two makeup dates if classes are canceled.

How do I register my child?
Please visit LAES.ptboard.com and select 'Form & Payment’ from the left menu to register and pay for classes. Don't forget to sign up for your volunteer time! 

Can Kindergarteners participate?
Yes, Kindergartners may participate in the classes designated. Please think carefully about your student to know if they can handle a long day. 

What is the PTA Refund Policy?
Refunds cannot be issued because the PTA makes commitments to pay Enrichment instructors based on the number of students enrolled by the registration deadline. If a class does not meet the minimum registration requirement set by the vendor, parents will be offered an opportunity to enroll their student in a different class or be refunded the class cost.

How are Enrichment Programs chosen?
Each Spring, we seek feedback from parents about the Enrichment Programs. We use this feedback to prepare a portfolio of courses to offer in the following academic year. Vendors for the selected classes are chosen from the list of approved FCPS vendors.

How are the prices set for Enrichment Programs?
Pre-approved vendors go through a rigorous vetting program with FCPS — which includes a financial review to ensure that costs are kept as affordable as possible. The LAES PTA does not charge a fee, but there is a fee for the online commerce system. We also work with the vendors to get scholarships to ensure as many students as possible are able to participate in the program.

Cada primavera, buscamos comentarios de los padres sobre los Programas de enriquecimiento. Usamos estos comentarios para preparar una cartera de cursos para ofrecer en el siguiente año académico. Los proveedores para las clases seleccionadas se eligen de la lista de proveedores aprobados de FCPS.

¿Cómo se establecen los precios para los Programas de enriquecimiento?
Los proveedores previamente aprobados pasan por un riguroso programa de investigación con FCPS, que incluye una revisión financiera para garantizar que los costos se mantengan lo más económicos posible. La PTA de LAES no cobra una tarifa, pero hay una tarifa para el sistema de comercio en línea. También trabajamos con los proveedores para obtener becas para asegurar que tantos estudiantes como sea posible puedan participar en el programa.
